Mission Statement

The mission of the Garfield County Amateur Radio Emergency Services (GARFCO ARES) is to serve the public by providing emergency communications in times of need during natural or man-made disasters. We are licensed amateur radio volunteers who dedicate our time, equipment, and knowledge for the betterment of public safety and give aid to those in need.

The Garfield County ARES meets the second Thursday of each month at the Cimarron Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross, 1023 W. Elm. Meetings start at 7pm.

EMERGENCY MANAGER SPEAKS AT CLUB MEETING

Mike Honigsberg, Garfield County/City of Enid Emergency Manager, was the guest speaker for the April 17th Enid Amateur Radio Club meeting.

Mike has been the county emergency manager for 12 years and for the past 3 years has also held the responsibilities associated with the city of Enid's emergency management.

CLUB MEMBERS ATTEND RED CROSS SPRING PREPAREDNESS EVENT

The Cimarron Valley Chapter of the American Red Cross presented "Be Ready When the Time Counts" March 24th with Eyewitness News 5's Rick Mithcell and the First Alert Storm Team. According to the Red Cross, approximately 450 attended the event.

The Enid ARC/Garfield County ARES participated along with Garfield County/City of Enid Emergency Management, Enid Fire Department, Garfield County Sheriff's Department, and others to help the public prepare for and be informed about severe weather.

There were around 9 members of the GARFCO ARES and EARC that manned the booth answering questions from the public about amateur radio and handing out information about the club. They also programmed several weather radios that were brought in.

Look under the "photos" tab for shots of all the fun.
