What in the world are those crazy Radio Active people up to now? We meet at the regularly scheduled Radio Active (RA) night time and place: Fourth Thursday, 7pm, Red Cross.
We’ve been looking into the possibility of getting some Mesh nodes going in Enid. So far we’ve located and upgraded three routers. Tim actually has some applications working across the routers. Like FTP. (File Transfer Protocol)
We hope to soon have at least one semi permanent site for a mesh node.
- We successfully shot a signal over 5 miles.
- We have started creating some talking point documents to use when requesting access to potential installation sites.
Ham Radio, what a diverse hobby!"

Field Test of Antenna's
On Sunday afternoon, March 14th, Dave (KC5SII) and I met and gathered up a couple of the directional Antenna's and some connectors and adapters and the rest of the HSMM hardware. We met out at Dave place and finished building a couple cables for the linksys radios and the antenna's. After a couple of in the barn tests we decided to move outside and do a small distance test. We setup a stationary 15db gain flat directional antenna (similar to the rootenna's) with one radio on it. We then loaded the other radio into the truck and drove a half mile and setup from the tailgate.
We found the 2 could connect up very easily at this distance. Even without the directional antenna and using the standard factory antenna, a connection was easily made between the two systems. We did notice that even if we modified the power settings on the radio, it did not seem to make any signal difference.
We plan to move forward with locating a site where we can install a static system and begin doing more tests at longer distances.
